AThere is a diamond in Jarvis, Ontario that has been telling stories for a long time.

The May 24 weekend tournaments. The Jarvis Juniors. The Travellers. Generations of fastball in a community that has always understood what the game means to the people who grew up playing it and watching it from those bleachers.

This weekend those bleachers come alive again.

The Jarvis J's are hosting the 2026 Ontario Challenge Cup, an ISC qualifying tournament that brings some of the finest men's fastball programs in Ontario together to compete for a spot at the 2027 ISC World Tournament. Games run Friday September 25 through Sunday September 27 at the Jarvis diamond, maintained with pride by the Jarvis Lions Club. Cold beer. Great food. An announcer on the microphone for every single game.

And this year, every dollar in the gate goes somewhere that means something in this community.

Aaron Doyle has been building toward this weekend for years. He put it plainly when we asked him what it means to bring this tournament home.

"The OCC in Jarvis is something we have been talking about hosting for years. In my opinion we have one of the best kept secrets in the fastball community."

He is right. The diamonds in Jarvis are among the finest community facilities in Ontario. Ask anyone who has played here and they will tell you. Aaron grew up in those bleachers watching the Juniors and the Travellers and he has spent years thinking about what it would look like to bring elite fastball back to the diamond where his love for the game was built.

This weekend is the answer.

The Causes Behind the Cup

What makes this tournament different from any other fastball weekend is where the proceeds are going.

Two days ago, on Wednesday September 23, shovels went into the ground on Nanticoke Creek Parkway in Jarvis for The Williamson House. The new 10-bedroom hospice palliative care centre operated by the Norfolk Haldimand Community Hospice, built on 10 acres of land donated by the Williamson family in memory of Drew Williamson. A facility that has been years in the making and that this community has fundraised, prayed for, and worked toward for a long time. Targeted for completion by 2028. A place where families in Haldimand and Norfolk County will receive the compassionate end-of-life care they deserve, close to home.

Part of this weekend's proceeds goes directly toward The Williamson House.

The other cause is the Jarvis Springs. The new community hub being built where the current lawn bowling club sits in the park. A building that will include a booth, bathrooms, a meeting area, and a splash pad for the kids of Jarvis to enjoy for generations.

When you come out to watch fastball this weekend in Jarvis you are not just watching a game. You are helping build a hospice and a splash pad in the same community where the diamond sits.

Aaron said it simply.

An Opening Ceremony Worth Showing Up Early For

Aaron and the organizing committee have put together an opening ceremony that deserves its own mention.

Local singer Jada Dawson will sing the National Anthem to open the tournament. Local fastball legend Andrew Phibbs will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. And Kyle Chambers, the town's favourite PA announcer, will be on the microphone for every game of the weekend.

That is a proper opening. The kind that reminds everyone in attendance what this game means to this community.

Every game will also have an official scorekeeper, a scoreclock attendant, and a full-time announcer. Aaron runs a tight ship.
