Meet Lane Graham. He is 14, from Hagersville, and he plays catcher for the Ancaster Angels. Lane started swinging a bat at 4 years old in Jarvis, and once he tried hardball in Port Dover, there was no looking back. Since then he has stacked up OBA titles, leaned on a long line of coaches who believed in him, and set his sights on a baseball scholarship south of the border. Here is his story in his own words.

His Story

Lane's baseball story started early. He was 4 years old when he first picked up a bat for T-ball in Jarvis. He played there for a season, then headed to Port Dover to try hardball, and as he puts it, the rest is history. From that first season on, the game stuck.

The hard work has paid off in a big way. Lane has won OBA championships twice and finished as a finalist once, all with the Simcoe Giants. Those titles sit at the top of his proudest moments, and he is hoping for a repeat this summer. Behind the plate as a catcher, he is in the middle of every play, inning after inning.

Ask Lane who shaped him, and he points straight to his coaches. He believes coaching makes a big difference in every athlete, and he has been lucky to have some great ones in his corner. His hockey coach believed in him, pushed him, and helped him along his journey. His parents have played a big part too, always pushing him to do better and never letting him settle. For Lane, the people guiding him matter just as much as the game itself.

What's Next

Lane's baseball goal is a clear one. He is hoping to earn a scholarship to play ball in the States, and another OBA run this summer would be a strong step in that direction.

Off the field, Lane is already thinking about a career with his hands. When he is older, he wants to work in the trades, with plumbing or electrical at the top of his list. It is a practical, build-something path that fits a kid who has put in the reps to get where he is.

Who He's Thanking

Lane is quick to say he would not be who he is without the people in his life. He thanks his parents first, for everything they do and for always pushing him to be better. He also gives a big shoutout to Coach Shawn, Coach Bryan, and his personal trainer, Coach Austin, for helping him grow as a player and a person. For Lane, the wins are sweeter with that group behind him.
