Simcoe’s Jeryn Shortt Shines in Historic Week for Lambton Lions Baseball
It’s only his first season with the Lambton Lions men’s baseball team, but Simcoe’s Jeryn Shortt is already making history. The former Simcoe Giants standout put together a week to remember, earning recognition as the league’s Third Star of the Week while helping the Lions pull off program-defining wins.
Shortt first made noise in back-to-back games against rival Durham Lords, where he swung one of the hottest bats in the lineup. He hit an incredible .667 with 4 RBIs across the series, while also coming out of the bullpen to record a save by striking out three over 1.1 innings of work. His performance not only secured wins for Lambton but also showcased his versatility as both a reliable pitcher and a clutch hitter.

As if that weren’t enough, Shortt followed up with a midweek performance that will be remembered for years in Sarnia. Taking the ball as the starting pitcher against the defending champion St. Clair Saints—the same team that edged out the Lions in last year’s gold medal game—Shortt delivered a masterpiece. He threw a complete-game one-hit shutout, striking out 11 batters in the process.
The significance of the victory cannot be overstated. It was the first time in program history that Lambton defeated St. Clair, and it marked the first time the Saints had been shut out in six years. Shortt’s dominance on the mound not only snapped those streaks but also set a new standard for the Lions program moving forward.
For local fans in Simcoe, these accomplishments come as no surprise. Shortt grew up with the Simcoe Giants, where he won multiple OBA Championships while establishing himself as one of the region’s top young arms. At the high school level, he starred with the Simcoe Composite School Sabres, helping lead the team to a CWOSSA Championship and a berth at OFSAA. His track record of winning and performing under pressure has followed him to the college level, where he’s proving he belongs among the best.
Shortt’s breakout week with Lambton is a testament to both his talent and his relentless work ethic. To dominate at the plate and on the mound against high-caliber opponents in such a short span shows the potential of an athlete still in the early stages of his collegiate career. For Simcoe and Norfolk County, it’s another reminder of the baseball talent being developed in the community and the bright futures that await its athletes.
As the season continues, Shortt will look to build on this historic start and keep leading the Lions forward. For now, his name is firmly etched into Lambton history—and his hometown couldn’t be prouder.
