Game of the Night: Simcoe Giants 16U vs Guelph Royals AA
Memorial Park, Thursday night, and the Giants and Guelph Royals AA settle in for a tight one. Guelph strikes first in the opening frame, Evan Freeman lacing an RBI double and Lenny Black legging out a triple to put the visitors in front early.
The Giants do not blink. They claw back, and in the third Liam Staats punches a game-tying single up the middle to even it. From there it turns into a grind, both sides trading zeros and waiting for someone to flinch.
Kellen Cameron takes the ball for Simcoe and battles through four innings, scattering three hits and keeping the Royals off the board with an earned run. Then comes the fourth. With the game knotted, Carter Zdunich steps in and rips a go-ahead double, plating the run that hands Simcoe the lead for good.
The Giants nurse it the rest of the way, and when the final out lands the home side has banked another close one. One clutch swing, one big double, one more nail-biter that goes Simcoe's way at Memorial Park.
Final: Simcoe Giants 16U 5, Guelph Royals AA 4.
