Norfolk U15B Capture Early Bird Title in Overtime Thriller
A gutsy comeback and championship moment highlight a weekend of teamwork and determination
The Norfolk Knights U15B went into the Clearview Early Bird Tournament looking to make an early-season statement — and left with something even more memorable: a championship banner, an overtime hero, and a weekend that showed what belief in a team truly looks like.
The Knights’ path to gold wasn’t easy. It began with promise, stumbled midway, and ended with a storybook finish that will be retold in locker rooms for years to come.
Norfolk opened the tournament with a strong 4–1 win over Orillia, setting the tone with disciplined defence and balanced scoring. They carried that confidence straight into Game 2, a 5–0 shutout over Collingwood, where every line seemed to contribute and the team’s structure was in perfect sync.
Game 3, however, brought their first taste of adversity. Facing the host Clearview squad, the Knights couldn’t find their rhythm and suffered a 4–0 loss — a reminder that in tournament hockey, the smallest lapses can shift momentum fast.
But this team wasn’t about to let one setback define their weekend. In their final round-robin game, the Knights bounced back with a convincing 4–1 win over Twin Centres, regaining the confidence and cohesion that had powered their early success.
The victory set up a rematch with Clearview in the championship final — the perfect chance for redemption.

From the opening faceoff, it was clear this would be a different game than their previous meeting. Norfolk came out sharper, faster, and fully committed to their game plan. The defense tightened up, the forecheck wore down Clearview’s breakout, and the Knights’ goaltending was rock solid.
Still, it was Clearview who struck first, breaking the scoreless tie with just seven minutes remaining in regulation. The goal could have deflated lesser teams — but not this one.
As the clock ticked down, the Knights dug in. With only 1:02 left in the period, Blake Martin found the puck in traffic and buried the game-tying goal, sending the Norfolk bench — and the crowd — into a frenzy.
Overtime loomed, tense and electric. Both teams traded chances, but neither blinked. Then, with the scoreboard winding down and only three seconds left in overtime, Cooper Inman etched his name into Knights history.
A perfect pass found his stick, and Inman made no mistake — snapping the puck home for a 2–1 overtime win and the Clearview Early Bird Tournament Championship. Helmets flew, sticks hit the ice, and the Knights poured off the bench to celebrate a win that felt bigger than hockey.
There were no passengers in this run. From the first shift Friday to the final seconds Sunday, the Knights’ success came from depth, discipline, and belief in one another. Every player played their role, every line contributed, and every coach trusted the next man up.
This was not a tournament defined by individuals — it was a collective performance built on resilience.
And as the players hoisted their banner and shared smiles with family and fans, one thing was clear: the Norfolk Knights U15B are a team that plays for each other — and that’s what makes them champions.
