Port Dover, ON

Perfect seasons are rare in hockey. They require talent, discipline, depth and a commitment to something bigger than individual success.

On Sunday night in front of a packed Port Dover arena, the Norfolk Knights U14A team completed exactly that.

The Knights defeated the Brant Battalion 8 to 0 to win the Southern Counties League championship, finishing the season undefeated through both the regular season and the playoffs. With the victory, Norfolk has now officially secured its spot at the Ontario Minor Hockey Association Championships, which will take place April 3 to 5 in Whitby.

The OMHA championships bring together the top teams from across the province, making it one of the most prestigious stages in Ontario minor hockey.

Sunday night’s performance was a reflection of the identity the Knights have built all season.

The game opened with a physical and emotional first period as both teams battled to establish control. Despite several penalties early in the game, the Knights remained composed and focused, leaning on their structure and team play to keep the game scoreless heading into the intermission.

When the second period began, Norfolk found another level.

The Knights broke the deadlock early in the period and quickly added two more goals to take a commanding 3 to 0 lead, including a power play goal that proved to be the game winner. The momentum inside the arena began to build as the Knights started to take full control of the pace and possession.

By the time the third period arrived, the Knights were rolling.

Norfolk added five more goals in the final frame, turning a strong performance into a dominant one and sealing the Southern Counties championship in emphatic fashion.

Following the game, the team shared a message that perfectly captured the identity behind the season.

“The barn was packed with an 8 to 0 win. The boys have had a heck of a season. Undefeated in the regular season and sweeping both playoff series while allowing only one goal against. It has been a full team effort. The focus all year has been team first and that was top of mind last night for sure. Their work is not done. They have punched their ticket to OMHAs. Focused. Determined. United.”

That unity has been the backbone of the Knights season.

Through the regular season and playoffs, Norfolk has played structured hockey, supported each other in every situation and trusted the system that has carried them from the first puck drop of the year to a championship banner.

Now the challenge moves to the provincial stage.

From April 3 to April 5 in Whitby, the Knights will represent Southern Counties at the OMHA Championships, where they will face the best teams from across Ontario in pursuit of a provincial title.

For now, though, Sunday night belongs to the players, coaches and families who filled the arena.

An undefeated season.
A league championship.
And a team that continues to prove that when everyone buys in, something special can happen.

The Norfolk Knights are not finished yet.
