The Norfolk Knights U16A team delivered a championship performance Saturday night in front of a packed Port Dover Arena, defeating the South Oxford Storm 7 to 1 to capture the Southern Counties League title and earn a spot at the OMHA Championships April 3 to 5 in Whitby.

With the Red Cap on the line, Norfolk came out focused and ready, playing the structured and relentless style that has defined their season.

The Knights opened the scoring in the first period when Ryan Suprun found the back of the net to give Norfolk the early lead and ignite the home crowd.

From there the Knights took full control of the game in the second period.

Andrew Graham doubled the lead on the power play before Wyatt Brown added another goal shortly after. The momentum continued to swing in Norfolk’s favour when Carter Paquette scored shorthanded, extending the lead and energizing both the bench and the crowd.

Brown continued his strong night offensively, scoring twice more to complete a hat trick and push the Knights further ahead as the game moved toward the third period.

South Oxford managed to break through in the third period, but Norfolk quickly responded when Kellen Cameron scored to seal the 7 to 1 championship victory.

The win capped off a strong playoff run for the Knights and was the result of a full team effort built around structure, discipline and relentless work ethic.

Following the game, head coach Ray Stewart credited the team’s commitment to the system and the belief that has driven them all season.

We are playing solid systems hockey. Every player has bought in and are doing their job and filling their role. We are a hard working dog on a bone mentality team.

For Stewart, the goal was clear from the very beginning.

From day one this team has believed and made it their mission to win the Red Cap. The guys are excited for the opportunity to fulfill that dream of winning the Cup.

With the championship secured, the Norfolk Knights now turn their focus to the OMHA Championships in Whitby where they will compete against the top teams from across Ontario.
