Meet Mylee Walker — OSG-bound softball player from Townsend

Meet Mylee Walker. She is 17, from Simcoe, and plays second base and outfield for the Waterloo Ghosts. This summer she is staying close to home for the biggest tournament of her season, representing Women's Softball - Waterloo Ghosts at the Ontario Summer Games from July 31 to August 2. Mylee has spent years building toward a moment like this, and with the college recruiting process already underway, she is chasing one more run with the teammates who got her here.

Her Story

Mylee's introduction to softball came through her older brother. She grew up around the game, tagging along to his practices and games, before falling in love with the sport herself. Years later, that early exposure has turned into a steady role at second base and in the outfield for the Waterloo Ghosts.

She credits her coaches and teammates over the years for shaping her into the player she is today, but says her biggest supporters have always been her family. Her mom, dad and brother have been by her side through it all, and she calls their constant love and support the foundation of everything she has built in the sport.

That foundation paid off in a big way when Mylee received her first email from a college softball coach. After years of early mornings, practices, and tournaments, seeing that hard work open a real door was one of the proudest moments of her career so far, and a sign the path she is on is the right one.

The Games

From July 31 to August 2, Mylee heads to Waterloo to represent Women's Softball - Waterloo Ghosts at the Ontario Summer Games, competing against some of the province's top talent. Earning a spot on that roster is no small feat, and for Mylee it means one more chance to compete at a high level alongside the teammates who have shaped her softball journey.

As she puts it: "As a team, we'd love to finish on the podium, but our biggest goal is to enjoy one last tournament together before we all worry about college and university next year."

Who She's Thanking

Mylee wants a few key people to know how much they have meant to her journey. "I'd like to give a shoutout to Chloe Hocquard, Jana Want, and my brother Mike Walker," she says. "They have shown me where this sport can take me, believed in me every step of the way, and helped guide me throughout my journey." From her family's support to the mentors who have poured into her game, Mylee's Ontario Summer Games run belongs to more than just her.
