Undefeated and Unstoppable: The Haldimand Heat U11 Girls Claim the Platinum Championship

June 11, 20264 min read

Five games. Five wins. A Platinum Division Championship.

The Haldimand Heat U11 girls fastball team just had one of the best tournament weekends of their season, going a perfect 5-0 at the UTM Teddy Bear Tournament and outscoring their opponents 44-17 along the way.

This was not just a dominant performance. It was a statement.

Setting the Tone Early

The Heat opened the tournament against the Oakville Angels and left no doubt about what kind of team they were.

Coach Troy Krywulak's squad held the Angels completely off the scoreboard in a 4-0 shutout victory. The pitching was sharp from the very first inning. Beatrice set the tone from the leadoff spot with two hits and two stolen bases. Jordyn provided all the run support the team would need, driving in four runs. The defence was flawless behind them.

One game in. The message was sent.

Settling a Score

Game two brought a matchup that meant something extra. The Milton Bats were the only team to beat the Heat all regular season.

Haldimand made sure it did not happen again.

The Heat collected nine hits, drew nine walks, stole eight bases, and delivered another complete shutout in a 7-0 victory. Beatrice went a perfect four for four from the leadoff spot. Jordyn drove in three more runs. The pitching staff held the powerful Bats offence to just one hit all game.

The lone regular season loss was answered. Emphatically.

Down 8-3. Then This Happened.

The final round robin game against LaSalle Athletics was the moment that defined this team's weekend.

LaSalle jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning. By the third they had extended it to 8-3. Most teams fold in that spot. The Heat did not even blink.

Jordyn sparked the comeback with an inside-the-park home run. Emma, Beatrice, Sylvia, and Sylena all delivered key hits as the Heat scored eight unanswered runs. Sylena came on in relief and shut the LaSalle offence down cold in the crucial late innings.

Final score 11-8. The Heat finished round robin play a perfect 3-0 and earned their spot in the Platinum Division as pool champions.

That comeback alone would have been worth the trip.

Into the Platinum Division

The semifinal brought the London Lightning and another test of this team's character.

London responded to an early Heat lead with five runs in the bottom of the first inning to take control. Again the Heat answered.

Five runs in the second. Four more in the third. Aubrey delivered a two-run triple during the surge. Beatrice collected three hits from the top of the order. Then in the fourth inning Ruby launched an inside-the-park grand slam to put the game away for good.

Fourteen hits. A 16-6 victory. The Heat were going to the championship game.

A Championship Worth the Wait

The Platinum Division Final brought the Stratford Flames, the only other undefeated team left in the tournament.

Stratford struck first. The Heat stayed composed.

Jordyn tied the game in the fourth inning with another inside-the-park home run. Then the fifth inning happened. The Heat put four runs on the board, capitalizing on pressure at the plate and aggressive base running to take a 6-2 lead they would never give back.

Ruby started in the circle and threw three strong innings, allowing just one earned run and striking out five. Jordyn came on in relief, struck out six more, and surrendered just one run over three outstanding innings. Beatrice and Sylena drove in key runs. Mila contributed two hits. Jordyn and Jocelyn each drove in two runs in the championship victory.

Final score 6-3. Platinum Division Champions.

What This Weekend Proved

The UTM Teddy Bear Tournament showcased every dimension of what makes this Heat team special.

They can shut teams out. They can come back from five runs down. They can deliver clutch hits when the game is on the line. And they have pitching that can carry them through a long tournament weekend.

Coach Krywulak has built something real in Haldimand. This group does not just win games. They find ways to win games. There is a difference.

Provincials are on the horizon later this season. After this weekend, the rest of the province has been put on notice.
