It was a loaded Tuesday night across Norfolk and Haldimand. The Simcoe Giants 14U spotted Hamilton four runs, fell behind 8-4, then rallied all the way back to win 14-12 in extra innings. Elsewhere, the Port Dover Clippers hung 19 on Tillsonburg, the U15 Haldimand Bulls rolled Norwich, and the Simcoe Giants 16U grinded out an error-free 5-3 win.
Game of the Night: Simcoe Giants 14U vs Hamilton Cardinals
The Simcoe Giants 14U did not make it easy on themselves. On the road against a strong Hamilton Cardinals 14U Tier 1 club, the Giants dug an early hole and trailed 8-4. For a lot of teams, that is where the night quietly ends. Not this group.
Simcoe kept the line moving and kept the pressure on. Underhill was the heartbeat of the comeback, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, swiping bags all night, and then delivering the dagger. His go-ahead two-run double in the top of the 8th flipped the game for good. Kapogianis matched him with two hits and three RBI of his own, and Lynch chipped in a pair of hits including a double. All told the Giants ran wild on the bases, stealing 11 and never letting Hamilton settle in.
On the mound, Zintel slammed the door in relief, tossing three innings and punching out three to protect the lead down the stretch. Hamilton did not go quietly, with Thomson going 2-for-4 and four RBI, but the Giants had one more push in them.
Final: Simcoe Giants 14U 14, Hamilton Cardinals 12. An eight-inning comeback from 8-4 down, and one of the gutsiest wins of the summer.
