Game of the Night: Haldimand River Cats vs. Flamborough Falcons (U13B OWHA)

Some nights, one goal is plenty. At Haldimand County Caledonia Centre on Tuesday, the Haldimand River Cats U13B earned a 1-0 shutout over the Flamborough Falcons in OWHA play.

A 1-0 final means the margin for error was razor thin for both teams, and the River Cats kept the door shut from the opening faceoff to the final horn. A shutout is never a one-player effort. It takes every skater back-checking and every shift cleared, and it takes a team that believes the next goal could decide it.

Final: Haldimand River Cats 1, Flamborough Falcons 0.

Around the Ice

  • Norfolk Knights U16AA had a game get away late in Waterford. The Knights led 3-0 after two periods and added a fourth goal in the third, but the Guelph Gryphons scored five in the final frame to win 5-4.

  • Norfolk Knights U15B let a lead slip in Wellesley. They led 3-1 after two periods, but Twin Centre scored twice in the third to earn a 3-3 tie.

  • Haldimand River Kings U13B came from behind in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Down 1-0 after the first, they scored two in the second and two in the third to beat NOTL 4-2 at Centennial.

  • Haldimand River Cats U15B dropped a one-goal decision at home, falling 4-3 to the Burlington Barracudas at Caledonia Centre.

  • Delhi-Norwich 59ers U10A pulled off a late rescue at Delhi. Trailing the Strathroy Jr Rockets 4-2 after two periods, they scored twice in the third to tie it 4-4.

  • Delhi-Norwich 59ers U13B lost a tight one in Tavistock, falling 3-2 to the Titans, who scored in every period.

  • Delhi-Norwich 59ers U11A posted a 3-0 shutout of the London Jr Mustangs Grey at Delhi, scoring once in the second and twice in the third.

  • Delhi-Norwich 59ers U11B held off the Tavistock Titans 2-1 at Norwich, getting both goals in the second period.

Coming Up: Port Dover Sailors at Niagara RiverHawks

Thursday is a bounce-back test for the Sailors. Port Dover fell 9-2 in Dundas last Thursday, and now it travels to Gale Centre to face the team with the best defence in the Bloomfield Division. Niagara has allowed just 32 goals, the fewest in the group, so every goal will be earned the hard way.

Dundas leads the division with 22 points, so the chase is on for everyone behind them. Puck drop is 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 22. Get out to the rink, or catch it on SportsEngine Play.
