Game of the Night: Haldimand River Cats vs. Hamilton Hawks (U18B)

The Haldimand River Cats U18B did not give the Hamilton Hawks a single goal at Caledonia Centre on Tuesday night. Sixty minutes, zero on the Hawks' side of the scoreboard.

At the other end, the River Cats found the net three times. That is a home shutout in OWHA U18B play, and a result worth a trip to the rink for the next home date in Caledonia.

Final: Haldimand River Cats 3, Hamilton Hawks 0.

Around the Ice

  • Delhi-Norwich 59ers U12A blanked the London Jr Mustangs Purple 3-0 in Delhi. Two goals in the first period set the tone, and one more in the second sealed the shutout.

  • Delhi-Norwich 59ers U10A won a see-saw one in Delhi, edging the London Jr Mustangs Grey 3-2. The 59ers led 1-0 after one, London scored twice in the second to Delhi's one, and it was tied 2-2 heading to the third. Delhi scored the only goal of the final period for the win.

  • Delhi-Norwich 59ers U11A fought to the final horn at Norwich and came up one goal short, falling 4-3 to the Ausable Coyotes. Delhi led 1-0 after the first and the game was tied 1-1 after two. Ausable scored three in the third, and the 59ers answered with two.

  • Delhi-Norwich 59ers U11B ran into a hot Twin Centre Stars team in Wellesley. It was scoreless after the first period, then Twin Centre scored four in the second and four more in the third for an 8-0 win.

Coming Up: Dunnville Jr. Mudcats at Niagara RiverHawks

Thursday night at Gale Centre (7:30 p.m.), the Dunnville Jr. Mudcats visit the hottest team in the Bloomfield Division. Niagara has won eight straight and sits second with 21 points, including 10 wins in 12 games, and its 31 goals against are the fewest in the division. Dunnville is eighth at 3-8-1 with 7 points and has lost its last three.

The Mudcats have played just 12 games, the same as Niagara and fewer than every other team in the division. Port Dover sits seventh with 9 points through 14 games, only two ahead of Dunnville, which has two games in hand. Dunnville's goal difference of minus 7 (42 for, 49 against) is the best of the bottom four teams in the division, so the table has been tighter than the record suggests.

These two have met already. Niagara won 4-3 on September 18, a one-goal game. That is the case for Dunnville: a team that pushed the RiverHawks once is back for another shot, at 12 games apiece. Can't make the drive to Niagara? The schedule lists a SportsEngine Play stream for the game.
