Game of the Night: Delhi-Norwich 59ers vs. South Huron Sabres (U12A)

Patience was the story in Norwich on Thursday. The Delhi-Norwich 59ers U12A and the South Huron Sabres went to the first intermission with nothing on the scoreboard, a 0-0 opening period that kept everyone guessing.

The 59ers broke the ice in the second period and carried a 1-0 lead into the third. South Huron had its chance to answer, but the home side held the door shut.

Delhi-Norwich added a second goal in the third period for a little breathing room, and South Huron never found the net. By period, it read 0-1-1 for the 59ers and 0-0-0 for the Sabres.

It was a full-team shutout in a U12A matchup that proved you do not need a pile of goals to have a great night. Two was plenty for the 59ers, and the zero on the other side belongs to everyone wearing the jersey.

Final: Delhi-Norwich 59ers 2, South Huron Sabres 0.

Coming Up: Dundas Blues at Hagersville Hawks

The Hagersville Hawks have a score to settle. Dundas beat them 6-2 in September and then 7-0 on October 29, a game where the Hawks still put 30 shots on net. Saturday at Hagersville Arena (7:30 p.m.), the second-place Blues come to town with 13 wins in 18 games, 28 points and 88 goals for. They did lose their most recent game, so no one in blue is coasting.

Hagersville is sixth in the Bloomfield Division at 6-8-2 with 14 points, fresh off a 4-3 win over Glanbrook. The Hawks have played just 16 games, fewer than anyone in the division, so they sit level with Streetsville on points with a game in hand and are three points back of fourth-place Glanbrook. The number to fix is goals against: 87 allowed, compared with 63 scored.

Dundas runs through Spencer Gendall (24 points in 16 games) and Kael Andrew (23 points in 17), with Brody Roberts adding 13 goals in 18 games. For Hagersville, defenceman Boston Strauch leads the way with 12 goals and 19 points in 16 games, and Luca Campolo has 11 goals in 15. It is a short drive for Haldimand fans, so get to the rink early, or catch it on SportsEngine Play.
