Game of the Weekend: Simcoe Giants 15U vs Stratford Nationals 15U
Sunday at 251 Norfolk Street, the Simcoe Giants 15U found out the hard way that a doubleheader is two stories, not one. Game one belonged to Stratford. Simcoe actually out-hit the Nationals 8-4, but a six-run third inning broke the game open and the Giants never caught up, dropping the opener 7-2. G Armstrong collected two hits, and Silverthorne and B Robyn each drove in a run to keep it close.
Game two was the bounce-back. J Fischer set the tone early with a two-run home run to right in the first, then put the whole thing on his back in a six-run sixth, lacing a three-run double to retake the lead for good. He finished 3-for-3 with six RBI. B Martin chipped in an RBI single, the Giants ran wild with six stolen bases and worked seven walks, and C Smith closed it out with four innings of relief and two strikeouts. Stratford did not go quietly, with Cole Morris going 3-for-4 in a 13-hit afternoon, but Simcoe had the last word.
A split on the day, and a nightcap the Giants will remember. Final: Simcoe Giants 15U 13, Stratford Nationals 10.
