Three nights of PJHL hockey rolled through Norfolk and Haldimand this weekend, and Friday belonged to Luca Campolo. His hat trick sent the Hagersville Hawks past the Dunnville Mudcats 5-2 at Dunnville Memorial Arena. The Hawks played twice this weekend and came back down to earth fast, dropping a Saturday home game to Dundas. Sunday was a mixed bag elsewhere: the Port Dover Sailors ran into a red-hot Niagara club, the Norfolk Knights U11AA snuck out a road win, and the Norfolk Hericanes U18B fought to a scoreless draw with Ayr.

Game of the Weekend: Hagersville Hawks vs Dunnville Mudcats

Friday night at Dunnville Memorial Arena, the Hagersville Hawks make sure everyone in the building remembers the drive home. This is Bloomfield Division hockey, the same tight little circuit the Hawks share with Dunnville, Port Dover, and the rest of the South Conference, so nothing about a road trip to Dunnville is easy. Luca Campolo opens the scoring in the first period, then adds two more before the night is out, a natural hat trick that breaks the game wide open. Matteo Reda and Drew Paghal each chip in a goal of their own, and by the third period the Hawks are running the show.

Dunnville does not fold. Liam Duffy and Anthony Rodrigues both find the back of the net to keep the Mudcats within range, and the home crowd stays loud into the third period. Dunnville actually outshoots Hagersville 35-33 on the night, more rubber on the home goaltender than the Hawks manage to put up, but Hagersville makes its chances count when it matters most. That is the story of the night in one line: fewer shots, more finish.

Campolo's three-goal night is the headline, but it is a full team effort. Four different Hawks find twine across three periods against a Dunnville squad that never stops pushing back, and Hagersville needs every one of those goals to hold off a Mudcats club that keeps coming in waves. It is the kind of result that looks comfortable on the scoreboard and felt anything but comfortable on the bench, and it sets Hagersville up nicely early in the Bloomfield Division race before the Hawks turn right back around for Saturday's rematch with Dundas.
