Fifteen-year-old Sophie Horton-Moulton of Simcoe is coming home from the Canada Summer Games in St. John’s, Newfoundland with a piece of history around her neck. Playing with Team Ontario, Horton helped her province capture the first-ever gold medal in women’s baseball at the Games, a milestone moment for the sport in Canada.

Horton, who plays locally with the Simcoe Giants 15U Tier 1 team, showed she belonged on the national stage. While she contributed as a pitcher in one of Ontario’s games, it was her bat that made the biggest statement. She led her team with a .562 batting average and drove in 10 RBIs, both team highs, helping power Ontario’s offense on the way to gold.

For Horton, the Games were about more than just numbers. The 2025 edition of the Canada Summer Games was the first to ever feature women’s baseball, giving players from across the country the chance to compete for a medal and make history together. Ontario’s win ensures that Horton will forever be part of a groundbreaking achievement.
