Haldimand Riverkings U10A Building a Perfect Storm Toward OMHA Qualification
In arenas across Ontario this winter, very few teams have put together the kind of season the Haldimand Riverkings U10A have delivered.
A dominant regular season record of 22-0-2 followed by a 4-0-1 start in playoffs tells part of the story. Tournament banners tell the rest. Hamilton Huskies AA Classic champions. Silver Stick Woodstock Regional champions. St Mary’s A Rock Cup champions.
This is not a team that stumbled into success. This is a group that has built it shift by shift.
Under head coach Jeff Bassindale, the Riverkings have developed an identity rooted in structure, pace and relentless team play. When asked about the biggest reason behind their playoff success so far, the answer was simple and powerful. Continued strong team play through the offensive, defensive and transition game play.
At the U10 level, that level of detail speaks volumes. It means they defend as five. They attack as five. They transition with purpose. And perhaps most importantly, they do it together.

While some teams rely heavily on one or two standouts, the Riverkings have been fueled by collective elevation.
Every game has given us multiple players who have elevated their compete level, with a strong supporting cast throughout the remainder of our line up providing us with the opportunity to be successful.
That culture shows in the results.
A 5-3 win over the Welland Tigers to open playoffs. A commanding 9-1 performance against the Garden City Falcons. A gritty 2-2 road tie back in Welland. A 6-1 victory over the Glancaster Bombers. And most recently, a 13-0 statement win over the Niagara Falls Canucks.
They are not just winning. They are responding. Adjusting. Executing.
Eyes on OMHA
With key matchups ahead against Garden City, Niagara Falls, West Niagara and Glancaster, the Riverkings control their own path.
What needs to happen to punch their ticket to OMHA’s
The focus remains internal.
By focusing on our style of play and maintaining a relentless team first attitude.
That answer captures everything about this group. No scoreboard watching. No shortcuts. No distractions. Just a commitment to their identity.
For a U10 team, that level of maturity speaks to coaching, culture and buy in from every player in the room.
A Season to Remember
Whether it is lifting tournament trophies or grinding through playoff battles, this Riverkings team has given Haldimand something to be proud of.
More importantly, they are building habits that extend far beyond one season. Compete. Structure. Team first.
That is how programs are built.
That is how young athletes grow.
