Port Dover, ON

It is shaping up to be a big night of playoff hockey in Port Dover.

Two Norfolk Knights teams will take the ice tonight with the same goal in mind. Win one more game and earn a trip to the Ontario Minor Hockey Association Championships, where the top teams from across the province compete for provincial titles.

Both the Norfolk Knights U14A and U16A teams hold 2 to 0 series leads in their best of five league finals and will look to finish the job in front of their home crowd.

The U14A Knights hit the ice first tonight at 6:30 PM. Norfolk has taken control of the series against the Brant Battalion with back to back wins, including a tight 1 to 0 victory in Paris on Thursday night after opening the series with a 3 to 1 win on Friday night.

The U14A squad has been one of the most dominant teams in Ontario this season. Norfolk finished the regular season undefeated and currently sits ranked second in the province on MyHockeyRankings. Now they are one win away from turning that remarkable season into a trip to the OMHA tournament.

Later in the evening the U16A Knights will take the ice at 8:00 PM with a chance to close out their own series against the South Oxford Storm.

Norfolk enters the game with a 2 to 0 series lead after a strong 4 to 0 win in Tillsonburg Saturday night.

Head coach Ray Stewart said “Skyler Evans made an immediate impact after returning from suspension” Evans opened the scoring at 7:38 of the second period. Just seconds later Brady Munich extended the lead at 7:12, giving Norfolk quick momentum that carried through the remainder of the game.

In the third period Garrett Arther added a short handed goal before Wyatt Brown sealed the win at 2:04, completing the four goal performance.

Behind the offence, goaltender Darren Maw recorded the shutout, while the Knights defensive group kept the Storm from generating sustained pressure.

Stewart credited the full team effort following the win.

“Darren played well and the defence played solid and shut them down.”

With both teams one victory away from advancing, tonight presents a rare opportunity for Norfolk hockey fans to support two championship level teams on the same night.

The U14A game begins at 6:30 PM and the U16A game follows at 8:00 PM.

Two teams.

Two series leads.

Two chances to reach the OMHA Championships.

And tonight the Norfolk Knights will try to finish the job on home ice.
