Meet Linken Marcoux. They're 16, from Jarvis, and they pitch and play second base for the Haldimand Bulls. Linken picked up softball at 13, made the Bulls that same year, and has been chasing the game harder ever since, including a callup to play with the Jarvis J's. Now the goal is getting back into OASA ball. Here's their story in their own words.

Their Story

Linken Marcoux didn't start playing softball until age 13, later than a lot of teammates who grew up in the game. That didn't slow things down. Linken tried out for the Haldimand Bulls that same year and made the roster, and playing alongside that group pushed Linken to get serious about the sport and keep improving season after season.

The proudest moment so far came in year two, when Linken got the call to suit up with the Jarvis J's. It was an eye opener. Suddenly Linken was seeing the level of competition waiting down the road, the exact players Linken now lines up against on the Bulls' men's league team. That jump from newcomer to competitor is exactly the kind of growth every young athlete hopes for, and it's stuck with Linken ever since.

Through it all, Linken's dad has been the steady hand. "My dad has supported me the most through my journey," Linken says. "He's pushed me to become a better pitcher and a stronger athlete in the sport, even with a late start."

That kind of support has meant everything to a player who's still writing the early chapters of their softball story, one season at a time.

What's Next

Linken's next goal is getting back into OASA softball. The Bulls had to move up to men's league last year after not having enough players to field a proper OA team, and Linken is hoping that changes soon, with enough new faces coming out to rebuild an OASA squad.

Off the field, Linken's future is pointed toward the trades. After high school, the plan is to go into HVAC, a hands on career that fits someone who's spent years learning by doing on the diamond and figuring things out one rep at a time.

Linken isn't shy about who deserves the credit: mom and dad, first and foremost. Between the encouragement and the endless drives to games and tournaments, they've been there for every step of this softball journey. It's the kind of support that turns a 13 year old trying out for a new team into a pitcher chasing OASA ball years later, and Linken knows it.
